Unbelievable Bún Bò Discovery in Huế!
One delicious bite, and you'll remember it forever! 🫶🏻
I wanted to try a bún bò spot different from the usual tourist traps in the city center, so I scoured Google Maps. I'll share my tips for finding hidden culinary gems on the map sometime!
Quỳnh Anh: A Local Favorite
Quỳnh Anh is a small eatery located next to a cafe at 9 Tố Hữu Street, open from morning until they sell out. It's clearly a popular spot with locals, and the menu prices are transparent, as you can see.
My brother and I ordered two bowls of tái nạm (rare beef brisket) with chả cua (crab cake) and bò viên (beef balls). I focused on these four toppings because they are key to judging the overall flavor profile.
The broth was light and flavorful, with a subtle hint of fermented shrimp paste, but not overpowering. The sweetness came from simmering bones, not artificial additives. It was noticeably better than other places I've tried. I believe the broth is a blend of pork and beef bones, which is what gives it that delicate flavor.
The tái nạm was tender, flavorful, and didn't have that strong beefy smell. The bò viên had a slight crunch and was springy, indicating it was made from fresh, quality beef. But the real star was the chả cua – I've seriously never tasted anything like it. A subtle fermented shrimp flavor danced across my palate, complementing the soft, almost melt-in-your-mouth texture, while still maintaining a pleasant chewiness. The chả was packed with fragrant crab meat. Simply delicious.
For 40k, the quality is exceptional. The portion was just right, not overly filling like some places that cater to tourists, which can leave you feeling bloated. It was so good that my brother and I bought 1kg of chả cua to take home, priced at 280k.
If you're ever in Huế, give it a try! 🫶🏻
