In Search of Authentic Tibetan MoMo in Saigon

Finding authentic MoMo, the savory dumpling from Tibet, in Saigon can be a real quest. And finding a place where it's actually made by someone from Tibet? Even rarer!

Discovering OmMoMo: A Taste of Dharamshala

I stumbled upon OmMoMo while longing for Dharamshala, India, where I first experienced the deliciousness of MoMo. For me, it brought back memories of a special trip.

MoMo is like a "Himalayan Dim Sum" 😆 and an absolute MUST-TRY when you visit 🇮🇳 Northern India: Dharamshala, Ladakh, or Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan. From my experiences eating MoMo at various spots in Dharamshala, the dough shouldn't be too thick, thin, or chewy like typical Asian dim sum. The wrapper has a slight chewiness, not too tightly wrapped, just enough to hold the filling of yak meat, chicken, mushrooms, or vegetables. The filling should have distinct flavors with a little broth inside, all enhanced by a slightly Indian, slightly Tibetan sauce... It's just a fantastic culinary experience! ✨

A Slice of Tibet in Thao Dien

OmMoMo has a similar vibe to the eateries run by Tibetans that I visited in Dharamshala. It doesn't just serve MoMo; you can also find stir-fried beef and several varieties of MoMo. They offer desserts as well, particularly the Tibetan Rose Panna Cotta (savor this one slowly to truly appreciate it 🙂‍↔️). The owner and chef is a true Tibetan, and the atmosphere, along with the staff, is warm and inviting.

If you're looking for a unique date spot or a place for a small gathering, OmMoMo is a great choice for a novel experience and a comforting reminder for those who've tasted MoMo before.
