Heads Up for Travelers Transiting Through Qatar! Visa Info

Transit Tips from My Recent Qatar Trip

Just got back from a trip and wanted to share some helpful visa information I learned at the Discovery Qatar desk for those planning a transit through Doha. Here's the lowdown:

Quick 3-Hour Qatar Stopover Tour

  • If you're interested in taking their organized 3-hour tour of Qatar, your minimum transit time needs to be 6 hours.
  • Important: you must return to the airport with the tour group after the excursion.
  • They can issue a visa for you right at the Discovery Qatar counter for $27 USD. Pretty convenient!

Exploring Qatar on Your Own (Longer Stays)

  • If you want to explore more extensively, like staying in a hotel for a couple of nights and hiring a driver to take you around for a full day, you'll need to arrange your visa online.
  • I applied online and received mine within 24 hours. The online fee was around $58 USD (I can't remember the exact amount).
  • Download the Hayya app to simplify the online visa application process. Keep in mind, this visa is for single entry only. I didn't inquire about multiple-entry visas.

Personal Highlights

Honestly, the desert dune bashing was the absolute best! And exploring the mosque, along with the sights, sounds, and delicious food at Souq Waqif market, were definite highlights for me. Some of the other attractions weren't as captivating, but perhaps that's because I've traveled quite a bit and things started to feel a bit similar. Enjoy your transit!
