Review: Hotel Faber Park Singapore - A Unique Stay
Last year, while visiting Singapore to see the dolphins at Sentosa and explore the Science Centre, I chose to stay at Hotel Faber Park. Its location was perfect, situated conveniently between both attractions. The hotel felt relatively new, with a mix of Western and Chinese guests. I didn't see many fellow Vietnamese travelers during my stay.
The Perks
-
Proximity is Key: Super close to VivoCity and Sentosa Island! A bus stop right in front of the hotel offers a one-stop ride to VivoCity. A short walk across the street takes you to Telok Blangah MRT station and another bus terminal, but I found the bus to be the most convenient option.
-
Breakfast Bonanza: A diverse and satisfying breakfast spread! Plenty of Western favorites like bread, salads, mashed potatoes, cheese, and sausages. You'll also find popular local and fusion dishes such as corn soup, congee with salted eggs, omelets, fries, pancakes with honey, fried noodles, meat with mushroom sauce, and steamed vegetables. Don't miss out on the flavorful local condiments!
The variety of veggies at breakfast was a real bonus. When dining out, you usually get only two measly cucumber slices.
For drinks, you can even concoct your own Tieguanyin milk tea or enjoy refreshing cucumber and lemon detox water.
-
Smart Design: Although the rooms are compact, the design is efficient. The toilet is separate, and the sink area is outside the bathroom, which is both spacious and practical.
-
Excellent Drainage: The superb drainage system, along with effective odor and humidity control, prevents water from pooling and allows the floor to dry quickly.
-
Universal Sockets: The power outlets accommodate both two-pin and three-pin plugs. The bedside reading lights are small and stylish but provide sufficient brightness for nighttime reading.
-
Balcony Bliss: My balcony offered a pleasant view of villas, greenery, and the road. I booked two rooms, one for my family of three (with a four-year-old) and one for two people. Despite being a light sleeper, I slept soundly! Surprisingly quiet, even though it's near the road; I rarely heard any car horns.
As a Tier 2 member on BOOKING, I received a complimentary upgrade to a Deluxe Double Room with balcony on the top (6th) floor. Only one room was upgraded, so the other remained a Superior Twin Room.
-
Rooftop Pool: The swimming pool is on the 6th floor, so rooms with balconies on that floor have easy access. The pool overlooks a building reminiscent of Bitexco! However, the pool area is small, with only two sun loungers and NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY. I swam all morning without seeing anyone, so families with children should be extra cautious.
Things to Consider
-
Location: A bit far from the city center.
-
Heat Retention: The glass windows trap heat. The air conditioning had to work hard to keep the room cool. On the plus side, clothes dry quickly on the balcony! This was only noticeable on the 6th floor; the 5th floor wasn't as hot.
-
Amenities: For a four-star hotel, the absence of cotton pads, absorbent swabs for ears after swimming, and razors felt a little stingy.
-
Access Cards: The front desk initially only provided one room key card upon check-in. We had to request additional cards, which they reluctantly provided, citing that many guests check out without returning the cards. If a room has two guests and only one key, how can both access the stairs or pool if the card is needed for room power?
-
Service Variances: Some staff members at the Front Office and F&B areas weren't very friendly, but the housekeeping team was consistently cheerful.
The cost for my 3-night stay in July was about 10 million VND per room.
