Hong Kong Food Adventures: Budget-Friendly Eats (No Reservations Needed!)
Hey everyone! I'm back – the one who recently shared my solo trip to Hong Kong from Mainland China (Shanghai). This time, I'm sharing a list of fantastic eateries recommended by my Mainland friends, all ticking the boxes of delicious, affordable, and no-reservation-required goodness!
My Top Hong Kong Food Spots:
-
兴记 (Hing Kee - Yau Ma Tei)
My order: Claypot rice with chicken feet + milk tea = 108HKD. This place is quite famous and was the most expensive meal of the trip. Personally, I didn't find it as amazing as the other spots. Their Oyster Pancake (生蚝煎饼) is supposed to be incredible, which I didn't get to try – maybe that's where the magic is! The owner speaks both English and Mandarin.
-
興記咖啡室 (Hing Kee Coffee Shop - Sheung Wan)
This place doesn't have an English name. My order: Fried pork chop noodles (猪排面) + lemon tea (柠檬茶) + French toast (西多士 – their signature dish, and it's amazing!) = 82HKD. Heads up: the owners don't speak English, but they understand Mandarin. I actually got lost trying to find this place and ended up at the first spot on my first attempt!
-
Taiwanese Spot near Yau Ma Tei Station (Nathan Road, Exit C)
My order: Braised pork rice (卤肉饭) + bubble tea (珍珠奶茶) = 72HKD (ordering drinks separately is 27HKD, so the combo is a steal!). I stumbled upon this place after a late night at Disney. The portion was huge, and the bubble tea wasn't overly bitter like some Hong Kong-style milk teas. The owner and staff don't speak English, but they do speak Mandarin.
-
和顺记 (Wo Shun Kee - Yau Ma Tei)
My order: Fried pork chop noodles (猪排面) + milk tea (奶茶) = 48HKD. This place is famous for its massive roasted chicken leg rice (55HKD), but it's only available during lunch. Since I went in the morning, I opted for the pork chop noodles. Having lived in China for a while, I was so happy to find fried pork that tasted similar to the Vietnamese style. I give this place a huge thumbs up! The owner and staff speak English but not Mandarin.
-
深仔记 (Sham Tsai Kee - Tsim Sha Tsui)
My order: Char siu pork rice with fried egg (叉烧饭) + milk tea (奶茶) = 62HKD (drinks are much cheaper with the combo). This place is spacious and feels a bit like a restaurant, but the prices are reasonable. The staff speaks English, and some speak Mandarin.
-
Pastries along Nathan Road
I simply bought these from various vendors along Nathan Road – nothing specific. Expect to pay around 12-15HKD per savory pastry, perfect for breakfast.
-
Drinks
Since I live in China and drink bubble tea often, I didn't try any new ones in Hong Kong. Instead, I bought bottled oolong tea (6HKD) from convenience stores along the street, which was even cheaper than bottled water!
My food photos aren't the best, but I promise the food is delicious! Thanks for reading! 🥰
