Bangkok on a Budget: Our First 4-Day Adventure!

Just got back from an amazing trip to Bangkok! Here are some tips and tricks we learned along the way. Hopefully, this will help you plan your own awesome adventure!

Where to Stay in Bangkok

We stayed at @marvinsuiteshotel. Super convenient location – only a 200m walk to the BTS Skytrain station! Just a heads up, the BTS stops running around midnight. Areas like Pratunam and Chinatown are also great options, close to the action and plenty of delicious food.

Getting Around Bangkok

Bangkok has two airports. We flew into Don Mueang (DMK) with Air Asia – it was more budget-friendly than Suvarnabhumi Airport. Make sure to arrive at the airport 2.5–3 hours early and have your documents ready: some cash, return ticket, hotel booking confirmation... you know the drill! It helps to breeze through immigration.

From the airport to your hotel, Grab or Bolt are your best friends. Pro-tip: On Bolt, make sure your profile picture is clear so your driver can easily spot you. If you're coming from DMK airport, consider taking the expressway to avoid traffic jams (the driver might add a 50 baht toll fee).

Traveling with a group? Bolt is definitely the more economical option, especially if you split the cost. If you're solo or traveling with one other person, the BTS or Grab are both convenient. If you plan on using the BTS frequently, grab a day pass – only 150 baht per person!

Must-Try Bangkok Food

Breakfast options were a little limited where we stayed. We ended up grabbing breakfast at 7-Eleven a few times – surprisingly good stuff! Just a heads up: you need to spend over 200 baht to use a Visa card at 7-Eleven.

Don't miss these delicious eats:

  • Boat Noodles (Mì Thuyền)
  • Crab Fried Rice at "Chula 50 Kitchen" – tasty, affordable, and not too long of a wait!
  • Tom Yum soup in Thailand tends to be on the sour side, so it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Tuk-tuk rides in Chinatown are a fun experience! Just remember to haggle down to about 2/3 of the original price. Our secret weapon: "We poor, don't have money" – the more enthusiastic you are, the better it works! 😂
