A Wonderful Stay at Wuzhen Tong'an Inn

Our Family's Experience in Xizhen (West Town)

Let me share our experience at Wuzhen Tong'an Inn, where my family stayed during our trip in early April. Traveling with two adults and a 6-year-old, we initially aimed for a Wuzhen Homestay. However, all family room options were fully booked. Luckily, we found availability at Wuzhen Tong'an Inn, and it turned out to be an exceptional choice! It was truly worth it.

  • We booked about a month in advance, paying a little over 2.9 million VND (almost 3 million VND) per night for a garden view room. While I wish we had secured a river view, the room was still fantastic. The price included admission tickets for two adults; our child (under 1.2m) entered free of charge. The room itself was spacious (around 20m2) with two 1.2m single beds and a window-side lounging area. The bathroom was large, featuring a generously sized bathtub. We also received a welcome fruit platter upon arrival. A pre-booked taxi from Shanghai to Wuzhen cost us 400 RMB.
  • The inn is located at the end of town. After checking in at the main entrance, an electric cart transported us and our luggage to the hotel, a short 5-minute ride. No walking required!
  • Upon arrival, hotel staff greeted us and assisted with our luggage, guiding us through a charming courtyard with large earthenware pots to the hotel entrance, just a short 20-meter walk.
  • The inn boasts beautiful wooden architecture. The staff are young, attractive, and provide friendly, courteous, 5-star service. We accidentally left our son's hat at the check-in counter, and they promptly called to notify us. The staff also carried our luggage directly to our room.
  • The inn offers a beautiful private riverside walkway perfect for taking photos without the crowds. It's also near a bridge with many fish you can feed and close to the boat dock. Being at the edge of town, it is next to the famous teacup-shaped tea house, which features daily performances with a Peking opera vibe. We heard the singing often as we passed by, but it was a bit loud for us to visit. There's also a fantastic costume rental and photography shop right next to the inn, so no need to venture into town for that!
  • The surrounding area is filled with a variety of eateries, from small, charming local spots to full-fledged restaurants, including outdoor hot pot and noodle shops designed in a classic, historical style reminiscent of period dramas. All are friendly and clean, serving traditional dishes with a history. We were able to eat well and enjoyably just by exploring the area around the inn, which was great because it meant we didn't have to walk too far and tire out our little one.
  • The breakfast hall is located across a bridge and is incredibly large and impressive. The buffet offers a wide selection of foods, from Western-style breakfast items to traditional Chinese dishes. We found the food delicious, and our child ate his fill.
  • The overall scenery in Wuzhen is stunning from every angle, but I believe the areas surrounding the inn provide some of the most picturesque and secluded photo opportunities. You can simply point and shoot to capture a perfect image!
  • Upon departure, an electric cart picked us up right beside the hotel to take us back to the entrance.

I'll share a video of our room below. When I have more time, I'll create another post detailing the restaurants and costume/photography shops in town for your reference.

Personally, I found Wuzhen Tong'an Inn to be an excellent choice, especially for families with young children visiting Wuzhen. The amenities, spaciousness, comfort, and prime location, along with all the included benefits, truly deserve a perfect score. If you're planning a family trip, consider this option!
