Phu Quy Island 4-Day Getaway: Maximize Every Moment! 🌊 ⛅️

Dreaming of the perfect island escape? Phu Quy Island is calling! This detailed itinerary will guide you through an unforgettable 4-day adventure, ensuring you don't waste a single second exploring its beauty.

✈️ Getting There: Your Transportation Guide

🔹 Hanoi <-> Ho Chi Minh City

  • I booked round-trip flights from Hanoi to HCMC, departing at 3 PM and returning at 9 PM. Airfare cost approximately 3,000,000 VND per person. A savvy booking can lead to real savings!
  • Departing at 3 PM from Hanoi allows you to enjoy dinner in Ho Chi Minh City before your next leg.

🔹 Ho Chi Minh City -> Phan Thiet

  • Take a Phương Trang sleeper bus from Mien Tay Bus Station to Phan Thiet. Book in advance via the Futa website; tickets are around 180,000 VND per person each way.
  • The bus ride is about 4 hours. Upon arrival at Phan Thiet Port early in the morning, rent a hammock at nearby cafes for a relaxing nap (around 40,000 VND per person until the ferry departs).
  • For the return trip from Phan Thiet to HCMC, I opted for Long Van Limousine, with convenient port pick-up and drop-off. Tickets are 280,000 VND per person each way, bookable via their app with various time slots.

🔹 Phan Thiet Port <-> Phu Quy Island

  • I booked seats on the ferry:
    • Superdong (outbound): 8:30 AM, 350,000 VND per person
    • Trung Trac (return): 10:15 AM, 370,000 VND per person
  • The ferry ride is approximately 2 hours. Remember to take motion sickness medication for a comfortable journey!

🔹 Exploring Phu Quy Island

  • Rent a motorbike upon arrival to explore the island at your own pace. Cuxi rentals are 150,000 VND, Vision rentals are 120,000 VND, and manual bikes are 100,000 VND per day. The Cuxi is super cute for photos! 😉
  • Contact your hotel in advance to arrange motorbike rental and luggage assistance from the port. Many hotels gladly provide this service.

🏡 Accommodation: Where to Stay on Phu Quy

🔹 Trang Van Hotel

During my visit, I chose Trang Van Hotel - Phu Quy Island. The rooms offer stunning ocean views! Be sure to book 3-4 weeks in advance during peak season. The facilities are modern, clean, and highly recommended!

Phu Quy also boasts a wide variety of charming homestays. Choosing one can be overwhelming due to the sheer number of beautiful options! 🤩🤯

📸 Must-See Attractions on Phu Quy Island (*)

Phu Quy is a treasure trove of scenic spots. Here are some favorites that guarantee stunning photos:

  • Doc Phuot (Phuot Slope): Capture breathtaking daytime and sunrise views. 🌅
  • Phu Quy Island Flagpole: Located near Doc Phuot, offering panoramic views of Bai Nho (Small Beach). 🇻🇳
  • Bai Nho (Small Beach): Shaped like a crescent moon, framed by turquoise waters and dark rocky outcrops.
  • Khe Sung Suong – Ganh Hang: Arguably the most beautiful beach on Phu Quy, with crystal-clear water and imposing cliffs.
  • Phu Quy Ngu Thanh Ancient Citadel: Weathered fish ponds transformed by the sea and sun into natural works of art. A photographer's dream!
  • Cao Cat Peak: "Hunt for photos" amidst majestic cliffs, offering panoramic island views, from serene beaches to thriving fishing villages.
  • Chi Nen Road and Wind Turbines (Wind Farm Road): Iconic road with windmills.
  • The Lonely Tree near Villa Bien Xanh: This spot is incredibly popular! The tree is never truly alone. 😂
  • Tam Thanh Fishing Village: A rustic and charming village. Please be respectful of the local community when taking photos.
  • The Secret Window: A rectangular frame offering a stunning view of the blue ocean. 💙
  • Trieu Duong Bay, Breakwater,...: Top locations for sunset viewing on the island. Missing the sunset in Phu Quy would be a huge regret!

(*) If you have more time, consider a snorkeling or stand-up paddleboarding tour to Hon Tranh. Ask your hotel for tour recommendations.

🦐 Foodie Adventures: What to Eat on Phu Quy

  • For lunch, try Bo Nong Phu Quy at Hoa Thuong restaurant. Their menu features four main dishes: grilled beef, stir-fried beef, beef dipped in vinegar, and steamed beef. The beef is tender and delicious with fresh herbs and rice paper wraps.
  • Dine at Nha Hang Cot Buom or Nha Hang Hai Tham for dinner. They offer a wide selection of fresh and delicious seafood. I highly recommend the Thai-style shrimp, grilled sea urchin, grilled oysters, and steamed ginger squid.

Expect to pay around 150,000 - 200,000 VND per person for a satisfying meal.

🔹 Snacks to Savor

  • Banh Can Co Phuc (near the lonely tree): Delicious savory pancakes with a flavorful dipping sauce and tasty shumai.
  • Grilled rice paper with shrimp paste: You have to try this! I ate several every day at a stall on 27/4 street (only 5,000 VND each!). 😗
  • Chill out at Up Coffee & Lounge in the evening for drinks. The beverages are reasonably priced (30,000-40,000 VND).
  • Sample the Matcha latte and Cacao at Rua Say Hi (25,000 VND for a large, delicious cup!). 🥤
  • Tam Thanh Market: You can find everything here! Be sure to try the sweet and fragrant watermelon (7,000 VND/kg). 🍉

🎁 Souvenirs

I bought souvenirs at the shops near Phan Thiet Port. The paper flower shop offers a wide variety of options, including grilled rice paper, dried fish, and boxed squid. 🐟🦑

Ultimately, Phu Quy Island has a way of making you long for its return. You won't want to leave! hehehe 🌿

Total relaxation guaranteed! ❣️

If you're planning a beach vacation this summer, take notes! 🌊⛵

📷 Special thanks to Mai Oanh and Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà for the photos and detailed review.
