My Singapore Getaway: A Review of J8 Hotel
Hey everyone! I just got back from a 3-day, 2-night trip to Singapore and wanted to share my experience at the hotel I stayed in. Hopefully, this helps you make a decision when planning your own trip!
Before my trip, I booked J8 Singapore. I did check out the Google Reviews beforehand and noticed there were mixed opinions, some positive, some negative (mostly complaints about unclean bathrooms and the front desk staff). I almost cancelled my booking to find another hotel, but after a lot of consideration, I decided to stick with it. And luckily, I was very satisfied with my stay!
The Hotel: J8 Singapore
- Location: Situated on Townshend Road, right next to Little India. Bus and MRT stations are about 500-700m away.
- Breakfast: The hotel includes a delicious all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast (from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM). It included 3 main dishes: fried rice, fried egg noodles (not instant noodles!), and egg porridge. There were also french fries, fried chicken, fruit, coffee, tea, and more! The buffet staff were very friendly.
- Room: Small but very clean (this was my favorite part!) and not at all stuffy. Room size: 11m2. There was hot water available for showers even at 11 PM. The air conditioning was adjustable and worked so well that one night I had to turn it off completely because it got too cold. No deposit was required upon check-in.
- Front Desk: Open 24/7, very friendly and willing to help.
Things to Consider
- Downsides: The bathroom is a bit small and doesn't have a separate shower stall. The bathroom door is a little flimsy and hard to close (fine if you're traveling alone). On my second day, I noticed a strong smell of cigarette smoke in the room when I returned, even though I didn't smell it the first day (maybe it spread from another room through the ventilation system?). After a while, I got used to it (or maybe the smell disappeared).
Overall, if you only need basic amenities, this hotel is a great choice.
Finally, a big thank you to Luke Bui for lending me his EZlink card, which made traveling by MRT and bus so much easier!
