District 10 Food Gems: Part 2 - Let's Eat! 😋
Back with more delicious recommendations from my food adventures in District 10! Get ready to drool! 🤤
Our District 10 Foodie Lineup:
- Lang Nuong Nam Bo (Southern BBQ)
- Hue Ky/Tat Ky Noodle House
- Oc Quang Anh (Snails)
- Bo's Popcorn
- Sư Vạn Hạnh & Nguyen Tri Phuong Milk Tea Hotspots
1. Lang Nuong Nam Bo: BBQ Bliss 🔥
Address: 302A To Hien Thanh, Ward 15, District 10
Price: $4.3++
If you're anywhere near District 10, you've probably heard of this legendary BBQ joint! We used to be regulars when they were located in the alley off Cach Mang Thang Tam. Now, they've moved to a much bigger, brighter, and beautifully decorated space on To Hien Thanh. Parking is available at the elementary school across the street.
Must-Try Dishes: The crispy-skinned roast suckling pig and fried buns are an absolute must! The pork is incredibly tender. We also love the grilled pork belly, crispy fried elephant ear fish, and braised fish in savory sauce (we skipped the fish this time). Don't forget the peppered pig stomach stew!
Perfect for lively parties and gatherings with friends who love a boisterous atmosphere and maybe a beer or two! They have private rooms available (reservations recommended), and the food is just as delicious as ever. 👍
Important Note: Prices have definitely gone up, and portions seem a bit smaller. For example, a serving of roast suckling pig (about 13 pieces) is now around VND 450,000. It's delicious, but be prepared – it's not as cheap as it used to be! Check out the bill in my video for reference.
2. Hue Ky/Tat Ky Noodle House: A Nostalgic Taste 🍜
Address: 499/4A Cach Mang Thang 8, Ward 13, District 10
Hours: 7-11am, 4pm-11pm
Price: $2.2++
We waited SO LONG to enjoy this place again! It used to be a tiny shop, but closed down about 7-8 years ago when the family moved to the US. I was thrilled to see it reopened on my recent visit! 🎉
The shop has been rebuilt and is now longer than before. You can sit at tables in the open area across the street, with parking for both motorbikes and cars. The area has been redeveloped, with many new shops and restaurants.
The mixed noodles/clear noodles are just as delicious as I remember! The shrimp cakes are good (the best ones are at a noodle shop on Nguyen Trong Tuyen, but it's always closed when I go). The wontons are tasty, though the filling is a bit lean.
3. Oc Quang Anh: Snail Heaven 🐌
Address: 189 To Hien Thanh, Ward 13, District 10
Hours: Noon-11pm
Price: $2.6++
This place is perfect for casual snail feasting and catching up with friends! Most dishes are around VND 50-60,000, a fair price for the quality and current market rates. Portions aren't huge, so order accordingly! 😉
My Go-To Dishes: Mud creeper snails, blood cockles, garlic butter razor clams, scallops, and lemongrass clams are all great! The salted roasted rock crab and grilled shrimp with chili salt are also worth trying.
The blood cockles, scallops, and rock crab aren't as big or meaty as what you'd find in the US, but they're perfect for snacking. The seasoning is on point, and the garlic butter razor clams are amazing! The sautéed or roasted dishes come with crispy pork lard bits and corn – so fun! They used to give more sauce for dipping bread, though. 🥲 And their balut (fertilized duck egg) is delicious!
This is a great place for snacks; for crab or lobster, check out other restaurants.
4. Bo's Popcorn: The Ultimate Snack 🍿
Address: 9 Thanh Thai, Ward 14, District 10 (right next to the sports center)
Hours: 2-10pm
Price: $0.65/bag
Flavors: Butter, cheese, matcha, chocolate
I'm obsessed with the butter and cheese flavors! The popcorn is incredibly crispy and coated generously with butter and cheese. It's on the sweeter or saltier side, so if you prefer plain butter, this might not be for you. Trust me, it's better (and cheaper) than movie theater popcorn! Perfect for kids!
The popcorn stays crispy even if you leave it out for a day! It's not as crunchy as when it's fresh, but it doesn't get soggy. There's another vendor nearby, but it's NOT Bo's, so pay attention to the name! It's SO good that I buy it 2-3 times a week, even when it's raining! The one with the longer line is definitely Bo's! 😜
5. Milk Tea Mania: Sư Vạn Hạnh Area 🧋
Cha Go: 816 Sư Vạn Hạnh, Ward 12, District 10
Located across from Hospital 115, this is a large shop with plenty of seating, both indoors and outdoors. They have a wide variety of drinks, and the tea is strong and flavorful! I find the Cha Go on Nguyen Trai slightly better, but you should definitely try their milk tea – it's rich, bold, and creamy.
- Price: $1.95++
- Rating: 4/5
Comebuy Tea: 682 Sư Vạn Hạnh, Ward 12, District 10
Located diagonally across from Van Hanh Mall, this is just as good as the Comebuy Tea in California! The Huntington Beach location uses a machine to brew and compress the tea, which is fascinating to watch. They don't have that in Vietnam, but the tea is still an 8-9/10 compared to the US shop!
The tea is strong, with a warm lingering taste. If you want the pure flavor, order a Teapresso. For a richer, creamier option, go for the Teaccino. The Neptune and Oolong Tanbei are delicious! The pearls are good, but the prices are higher than average.
- Price: $2.21++
- Rating: 4-4.5/5 (based on the tea flavor)
ToCoToCo: Inside Van Hanh Mall (Basement Level)
- Price: $2++
- It's okay. The tea isn't very strong, but the pearls are decent. Convenient if you're already at Van Hanh Mall. 👍
- Rating: 3-3.25/5
6. Milk Tea Hopping: Nguyen Tri Phuong Near 3 Thang 2 Street 🍹
Explore Hi Tea Town, Get Tea, GenKi, Soi Thai, Heekca, and Jojo!
Soi Thai: 204 Nguyen Tri Phuong, Ward 4, District 10
Beautifully decorated shop with a wide variety of drinks and Thai snacks. The Thai milk tea is delicious, and the salted egg yolk cream is a unique and tasty addition.
- Price: $1.95++
- Rating: 3.75/5
Heekca: 220 Nguyen Tri Phuong, Ward 4, District 10
Spacious shop with plenty of seating. The milk tea is decent, and the cheese foam is good. However, as someone who drinks a lot of milk tea in the US, Heekca is just okay for the price.
- Price: $2.17++
- Rating: 3/5
Get Tea VN: 416 Nguyen Tri Phuong, Ward 4, District 10
In the evening, they set up small LED chairs on the sidewalk, which is a lot of fun. They have a diverse menu, not just tea and milk tea. The quality is excellent for the price. Some of the teas are flavorful, and the pearls are good. The staff is also very helpful and offers great recommendations.
- Price: $1.5++
- Rating: 3.75-3.9/5 (based on the surprisingly good taste for the affordable price of around $1.86 for a large cup)
GenKi: 206 Nguyen Tri Phuong, Ward 4, District 10
They have a diverse menu with smoothies. The Sunshine Hoang Kim has a strong tea flavor and pearls. They have tables upstairs, located across from the University of Economics.
- Price: $1.95++
- Rating: 3.5/5
Hi Tea Town:
Located near 3/2 Street, it's a decent option with a relatively diverse menu, including coffee. It's a small shop with limited seating and is near several eateries like banh canh cua.
- Price: $1.5++
- Rating: 3-3.5/5
For snacks, head to Ho Thi Ky Market! There are many unique and delicious treats, but it's crowded, and it's mostly street food vendors. Consider your stomach before you go!
If you're looking for a mall experience in District 10, check out Van Hanh Mall! It has a supermarket, restaurants, and eateries serving Asian, European, Western, and Vietnamese cuisine. There's also a movie theater. I often go to Crystal Jade - a Chinese restaurant, but I'll share more Chinese restaurant recommendations another time!
Happy eating and exploring in District 10! Enjoy! 😊
