Heads Up for Beach Camping at Bai Thung
Bai Thung sits right along the scenic DT702 coastal road linking Binh Hung (Khanh Hoa) and Vinh Hy (Ninh Thuan). A few years back, this spot was mainly visited by camping enthusiasts on weekend getaways. But ever since Vinh Hy gained popularity, Bai Thung has also become more well-known. Nowadays, you'll find a few businesses starting to offer camping services right on the beach.
The Beauty of Bai Thung
From a high vantage point, the beach looks expansive and gorgeous, with crystal-clear waters and a refreshing row of casuarina trees. However, up close, you'll notice the sand is coarse, with larger grains mixed with bits of coral. Unfortunately, there can be a fair amount of litter and seaweed washed ashore by the tides and wind.
Getting There
The road leading down to the beach starts off relatively smooth, but the last stretch is quite bumpy. If you're on a motorbike, a manual transmission is preferable. Cars with low ground clearance can make it all the way down, but you'll need to drive carefully. Alternatively, you can park your vehicle at the top and walk down to the beach.
What to Expect On-Site
Bai Thung is still largely undeveloped. There's only one family that sells a few bottled drinks, instant noodles, and basic snacks. You can also take a freshwater shower there. As a reference, I remember it costing around 20k VND per person.
Important Considerations
On windy days, the beach is wonderfully cool and comfortable. However, on calm days with no breeze, it can feel quite stifling, even right by the sea. Tides rise and fall, so be sure to pitch your tent far enough away from the waterline.
Things to Do
Aside from swimming, relaxing, and soaking up the natural beauty, there's also a pretty cool cave near Bai Thung. After watching the sunrise, you could paddle out on a SUP and explore it, taking some photos. Be aware that the cave entrance is a popular stop for speedboats on tours from Binh Hung, so exercise caution.
