Two Motorcycle Adventures: Exploring Italy's Mountains and Coastline

🇮🇹 Two Epic Motorcycle Adventures in Italy: Mountains & Coast! 🏍️✨

As Vietnamese, riding motorbikes is basically in our DNA, right? 😉 So, why not take that skill to Italy, one of the most scooter-friendly countries in Europe, in my opinion!

⛰️🌊 Conquering Tuscany's Hills & Amalfi's Shores on Two Wheels!

I've had the thrill of exploring Italy on a scooter twice! Once in the north in stunning Tuscany, and another time cruising the breathtaking Amalfi Coast in the south. Both times, I rented for a day and soaked it all in!

🛵 Tuscany Scooter Rental: Florence Adventure!

  • Rental Spot: Florence Station Rental (Google it for the exact address!). The owner was super friendly, enthusiastic, and even a fan of Vietnamese food! 😀
  • Requirements: You'll need an international driving permit AND your original driver's license. Expect a deposit of €500-€700.
  • Price: Varies based on the scooter and engine size. We snagged a classic red Vespa 125cc for €55/2 people/24h (from pick-up time). Gas is extra - budget around €5-7 and the owner will point you to the nearest station.
  • The Route: We zoomed from Florence to Chianti, a charming Tuscan town about 30km away. A perfect day trip! Want to go further? Florence to Siena is doable, but you'll need a longer rental period.

🛵 Amalfi Coast Scooter Rental: Coastal Cruising!

  • Base: We were staying in Naples, so we hopped on a train to Vietri-sul-Mare and rented a scooter there.
  • Rental Spot: Rent da Mateo. Heads up: it looks like a regular convenience store, but just ask about scooter rentals and they'll know! Quick, easy, and affordable.
  • Requirements: No international license needed in Vietri-sul-Mare, and no deposit! (Maybe Southern Italians are more laid-back? 😉)
  • Price: €45/2 people/24h (from pick-up). Gas was only €5.
  • The Route: Vietri-sul-Mare along the coast, passing picturesque villages towards Amalfi => Positano => then back. A fantastic day trip.

🌟 Review & Comparison: Which Ride Reigns Supreme?

  • Both rentals were surprisingly smooth, fun, and gave me a different perspective! The processes weren't complicated, so I highly recommend it if you're feeling adventurous! 😁
  • Riding solo might save you €10, but I recommend having a partner for navigation, especially in Florence.
  • Riding in Florence/Tuscany requires more attention to lane discipline and traffic laws, which could be a bit stressful. 😅 The Amalfi Coast route is much simpler and easier.
  • In Amalfi, a scooter isn't just fun – it's practical! Buses are the main transport, but their schedules are unpredictable. Having your own ride gives you much more freedom! 🥶
  • Which region is better? Mountains vs. coast... tough call! Tuscany is more famous, but Amalfi is easier to navigate. Honestly, both are almost as beautiful as Ha Giang and Ninh Thuan back in Vietnam! Just my personal opinion. 😉

Hopefully, my experiences will help make your trip to Italy even more amazing! ✌️ Cheers!
