Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana: My Honest Review! 🌴

Dominican Republic Getaway - Or Not? 🤔

You know I'm a Hyatt Ziva Cancun devotee! (Seriously, I've been there 23 times and stayed 16 times, most recently just a month ago!). I love it! But, I thought, maybe it's time to explore? Could there be an even BETTER all-inclusive resort out there?

Cancun's off the list - nothing beats the Hyatt Ziva Cancun there, guaranteed! So, after reading tons of reviews and getting recommendations, we booked Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic! Plane tickets and hotel reservations locked in - excitement levels were HIGH, like a bride on her wedding day! 😄

We flew from IAD to the Dominican Republic in United First Class (SCORE! - totally free, thanks to points!). Pre-booked transportation whisked us away to the resort. Check-in was smooth, and we immediately hit the buffet. Fueled up, we split up to explore!

The Good, The Bad, and the Seaweed! 🌊

  • Huge Resort: This place is MASSIVE! If you're not into walking, it could be a challenge. But if you love a good stroll, it's fantastic! 👍
  • Water Park Paradise: The water park is HUGE! Kids will be in heaven. Note: It's a bit of a walk, so you might want to grab a golf cart ride. Getting a ride back can be tricky, so pack light for the walk back. Lots of quick eats nearby, though!
  • South American Beaches: The beaches are normally amazing. However this beach facing the open sea.
  • Beach Blues: Getting to the beach can feel like a trek. And since it's a public beach, keep an eye on your belongings if you're swimming. Just sayin'! 😊

And Then... The Seaweed Attack! 😱

Mother Nature had other plans. Ironic that a tropical vacation should be rainny for a week. We headed to the beach to claim our spot, only to be confronted by... a MOUNTAIN of seaweed! It was up to my thighs (and I'm almost 6 feet tall! 🤣). Seaweed removal trucks were in full force. Apparently, this is a common issue. Because the beach is public, cleanup is slow. Heartbroken, we retreated to the pool... I hate pool... but oh well!

The next morning? Same story. Seaweed Armageddon! 😡 Seriously! Defeated, we spent the rest of the day wandering the lobby, dreaming of being back home already, and that was the whole trip.

Final Verdict on Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana? 🤔

Resort size is great (I don't like small resorts). It has the waterpark and amazing restaurants so all family can enjoy. The beach felt far, shared with locals. The biggest issue for me? The un-swimmable beach. (I know, it's luck, but the location makes it more prone to seaweed.) It's a lot of walking, especially for older travelers. So, it depends on your family's needs. For me? I'm heading back to my beloved Hyatt Ziva Cancun! Happy travels!

P.S. Flew First Class on the way home again! (Still free! 😁)
