Hoi An: Your Ultimate Guide (From a 6-Time Visitor!)
Okay, confession time: I'm OBSESSED with Hoi An! I've been there SIX times – day trips, weekend getaways, chilling by the beach, exploring the ancient town… you name it. So, I figured it was time to share my insider tips to make your upcoming Hoi An adventure absolutely AMAZING!
When to Go: Timing is Everything!
- Best Time: February to April – think perfect weather, sunny skies, and a cool breeze. Ideal for exploring!
- Hottest Months: June to August – prepare for some serious sunshine (and maybe a heatwave!).
- Rainy Season: August and September – occasional showers, so pack an umbrella!
How Long to Stay: Maximize Your Time!
2 days is the sweet spot! But if you're short on time, arrive in the afternoon, soak up the magical nighttime vibes, and head out the next midday. Trust me, seeing Hoi An lit up at night and peacefully waking up with the town is a MUST!
Where to Stay: Location, Location, Location!
- Close to the Action: Aim for hotels within 2km of the Ancient Town. It's convenient but still allows you to escape the bustle. I personally recommend La Siesta Hoi An, Alsahar Hội An, or Anio – all super close and incredibly Instagrammable!
- Beach Vibes: If you're a beach bum, check out New World Hoiana, Bellerive Hoi An Resort & Spa, or Bliss Hoi An Beach Resort & Wellness. Bonus: they're near Vinwonders!
Pro-tip: Book your hotels on Traveloka for the best deals!
Must-Sees & Killer Itineraries: Making the Most of Hoi An!
Hoi An gets CRAZY crowded in the afternoons. Wake up early (6-8 AM) for the best photo ops – the light is gorgeous, and the streets are empty. In the afternoon, chill at a cafe and then maybe take a boat ride on the river (light up those lanterns!).
Photo Hotspots: Get Your Gram On!
- Japanese Covered Bridge (Chùa Cầu): Under renovation, but still iconic.
- 184 Tran Phu: Right next to the bridge!
- Faifo Coffee: Stunning rooftop views of the Ancient Town!
- 92 Station: Another great rooftop option, I think it has a slightly wider view.

Hoi An Hacks: Tips for a Smooth Trip!
- Parking: Park across from 44 Phan Chu Trinh (only 5k VND, short walk to the Ancient Town). You can also rent bikes and strollers nearby.
- Motorbike Access: You can drive your motorbike into the Ancient Town before 8:30 AM, so go straight to the Japanese Covered Bridge for photos!
- Trình Cafe Tip: Get there early on weekends! On weekdays, arrive around 5 PM for a riverside table. Their tea is strong, so order something else if you're sensitive to caffeine!
- Ao Dai Rentals: Tons of rental shops on Phan Chu Trinh.
- Ba Mu Pagoda Gate: Best photos after 3 PM (avoids harsh sunlight).
- Desserts: The sweet soups in the Ancient Town are generally delicious – you can't go wrong!
