Visiting the Great Pyramid of Giza: A Complete Guide to Wonders

Reviewing the Great Pyramid of Giza: A True Wonder of the Ancient World

Standing before the Great Pyramid of Giza for the first time, I felt as though I was witnessing something that transcended time itself. No book or photo can truly capture the sheer scale of these massive stone blocks, set within an ancient complex of pyramids and temples overlooking the West Bank of the Nile.

The Giza Plateau is home to more than just the Great Pyramid (Khufu); it also includes the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, the Queen’s pyramids, the iconic Great Sphinx, and several noble tombs. Exploring the area feels like walking through a massive open-air museum. If you have the time, I recommend visiting the Great Pyramid and Sphinx in the morning, then heading to the desert edge viewpoints in the afternoon to see the pyramids lined up perfectly against the horizon.

Planning Your Visit

When it comes to tickets and access, there are a few ways to plan your trip:

  • General Entry: You can purchase tickets to the Giza complex in advance via official websites or travel platforms like Klook and Trip.com. The entry fee is approximately $20 USD.
  • Guided Tours: Opting for a full-day tour that includes the pyramids, the Sphinx, and local museums is a great choice. These usually come with a private vehicle and a guide, which is ideal if you want a deep dive into the history without navigating the desert heat on your own.

The site typically stays open until around 5:00 PM, but the desert sun is unforgiving. In my experience, the best time to visit is either early morning or late afternoon; it is much cooler and far less crowded. Because the complex is vast and requires a lot of walking, make sure to bring water, a hat, sunscreen, and sturdy walking shoes. Prepare to be absolutely awestruck by the sheer grandeur of this ancient wonder.
