Japan Eyes 5x Visa Fee Hike, Public Input Sought
Japan Considering Fivefold Increase in Visa Processing Fees
Japanese authorities are discussing raising visa processing fees to 15,000 yen (approximately $94.25 USD) for single-entry visas, a fivefold increase from the current fee of around 3,000 yen.
The proposed fee structure includes the following adjustments:
- Single-entry visa processing: 15,000 yen (up from 3,000 yen)
- Multiple-entry visa processing: 30,000 yen
- Visa extension fees: 40,000 yen (up from 6,000 yen)
The Japanese government will seek public input before finalizing the specific fee amounts.
The purpose of this increase is to align Japan's visa processing fees with those of the United States and European countries. Currently, Japan's fees remain relatively low compared to Western nations. For comparison, U.S. visa extension fees range from $420 to $470 USD, while Germany charges approximately $109 USD.
