Ho Chi Minh City Installs European-Style In-Pavement Traffic Lights for Pedestrian Safety

Ho Chi Minh City Unveils European-Style Pedestrian Signals for Enhanced Safety

Ho Chi Minh City is taking a pioneering step towards safer streets by piloting a new system of in-ground pedestrian traffic signals, reminiscent of those found in many European cities. This innovative approach aims to significantly improve the safety and convenience for pedestrians navigating busy thoroughfares.

Innovative Underfoot Signals for Pedestrian Awareness

Strategically placed along key central routes, these new LED traffic lights are embedded directly into the pavement. The system features distinct red and green lights that synchronize with the overhead traffic signals. This integration provides pedestrians with a clear, visual cue at their feet, making it easier to gauge when it's safe to cross.

When a pedestrian activates the call button, the signal is transmitted to the central traffic management system. This triggers a red light for approaching vehicles and illuminates a green light at ground level for those waiting to cross. This modern solution not only bolsters traffic safety but also offers a crucial alert for individuals who might be distracted by their mobile phones while walking, reminding them to pay attention to the crossing signals.
