Swimming in the Seine: A Free, Murky, and Slightly Salty Experience

Dive into the Seine: A Refreshing Dip in Paris

Imagine this: the sun is beating down, the city is buzzing, and you're about to take a dip in a place you might have only dreamed of – the Seine River!

My Seine Swimming Adventure

I recently had the chance to experience swimming in the Seine, and it was quite an adventure. It's conveniently located about a 10-minute walk from Metro Bercy station, making it easily accessible for a spontaneous cool-down.

Best of all, entry is completely free, which is always a welcome surprise in Paris!

The Experience

On the day I visited, the air temperature was a delightful 32 degrees Celsius, and the water was a comfortable 24 degrees Celsius. As I eased into the water, I noticed there wasn't any distinct smell. However, when I dove under, the water was quite murky; visibility was limited to about a meter.

Interestingly, despite being in a river, the current wasn't noticeable. This is likely due to the enclosed area of the swimming spot.

Safety First

For safety, everyone is required to wear a flotation device that looks like a yellow balloon. Holding onto it and just floating was surprisingly fun and relaxing.

While swimming, a bit of water inevitably gets into your mouth. I noticed a faint, slightly salty taste.

There are showers available, but be warned: the shower water was actually colder than the Seine itself! It gave me a bit of a shiver, but it was a bracing way to rinse off.
