Thistle Port Dickson: A Family-Friendly Resort with a Huge Pool - 2025 Review

Thistle Resort & Spa, Port Dickson: Our 2025 Family Adventure!

Just got back from a fantastic stay at the Thistle Resort & Spa in Port Dickson! The highlight? Hands down, the massive swimming pool – reportedly the biggest in Port Dickson! Here's the lowdown on our trip:

Quick Facts:

  • Check-in Date: April 11-12, 2025
  • Rate: RM215 (Room Only - Grabbed a limited promo on the Thistle Website!)
  • Our Experience: This was our third visit! Previous trips were way back in 2006 and 2012. This hotel has been around for almost 20 years!

The Check-In Experience:

  • Arrived early (2:20 PM) and scored an early check-in – talk about lucky!
  • No deposit required.
  • Super speedy check-in process.
  • Staff were friendly and helpful.

Our Room (Deluxe King with Garden View):

  • The room was standard, nothing over the top but clean and comfortable.
  • The best part? Every room has a balcony!
  • The King bed was HUGE – easily fit a small family!
  • Spacious enough for prayers, with the Qibla clearly marked.
  • All essential amenities provided: Iron, ironing board, hairdryer, prayer mat, etc.
  • Air conditioning was powerful and kept us cool.
  • Plenty of TV channels, including movies, sports, and Malaysian channels.
  • One minor gripe: Hot water took a little while to heat up.

The Star Attraction: The Swimming Pool!

  • This pool lives up to the hype! Reviews are right – it's enormous!
  • Open from 8 AM to 8 PM.
  • Lifeguards are on duty (thankfully!), as parts of the pool reach 8 feet deep. Safety first!
  • Towels are provided – just collect them at the counter.
  • Separate kids' pool with two slides!
  • The pool was sparkling clean and clear.
  • New activity alert: Paddle boat rentals for kids (RM10.80 for 15 minutes). A fun little treat!
  • Seriously, this pool is THE BEST! Worth checking in just for the pool. The kids were prune-y by the end of the day!
  • There's also a pool by the beach, designed for adults with a coastal vibe (see photos).

Facilities and Activities:

  • Arcade & Snooker: Requires tokens and payment.
  • Kids' Play Room & Lego Room: The Play Room is on the 1st floor, same as the pool. It was a bit basic and seemed a little empty. The Lego Room is next door. Lego bricks are available at the counter with a refundable RM50 deposit.
  • PlayStation Room: Didn't get a chance to try it!
  • Movie Room & Karaoke Room: (RM80/Hour including drinks and snacks - didn't try it, just saw the poster). Movie screenings are held outdoors by the pool at 7:15-7:30 PM (weather permitting).
  • GYM: Located near the SPA. Basic gym equipment. The treadmill was a bit noisy when running – definitely showing its age!
  • Ample free outdoor parking.
  • ATV Rides: Ranging from RM70-90 for single/double rides. We skipped this.
  • Mini Animal Farm: Located on the way to the beach. A small enclosure with birds. The rabbits were missing! (See photos).

The Beach:

  • The first day was windy with strong waves – felt like monsoon season! We didn't swim.
  • The second day was much calmer, perfect for wading. The water was similar to Teluk Kemang. The beach is shallow, making it safe for swimming.
  • The beach was clean.
  • Beach activities available: Jet skis, banana boats, etc.

Dining:

We didn't opt for breakfast, so no breakfast buffet review this time!

Overall:

We'd give it a 4.5/5! Deducting a little because the hotel feels a bit dated. But overall, it was a fun and family-friendly stay. We'd definitely return if we find another good deal! It's worth it for the price we paid.
