Ho Chi Minh City Welcomes New Nguyen Dong Chi Book Street

A New Cultural Space for Book Lovers

Ho Chi Minh City is about to unveil a vibrant new hub for readers: Nguyen Dong Chi Book Street, nestled in District 7. This 250-meter stretch promises to be a captivating cultural destination for book enthusiasts and the local community alike. It's a space dedicated to books and culture.

Remembering Scholar Nguyen Dong Chi

The street is named in honor of Nguyen Dong Chi (1915–1984), a prominent scholar who left an indelible mark on Vietnamese literature, history, Han-Nom linguistics, and especially folklore during his prolific 50-year career. A leading authority on Vietnamese fairy tales, his insightful analyses have enriched our understanding of Vietnamese folklore within the context of global storytelling.

In 1984, he was awarded the title of Professor. Posthumously, he received the Second-Class Independence Medal and the Ho Chi Minh Prize (1996), a prestigious recognition of his outstanding contributions to cultural research and creative endeavors.

A Literary Legacy: "Treasury of Vietnamese Folktales"

One of his most celebrated works is the monumental "Treasury of Vietnamese Folktales," a vast and enduring collection. Tomorrow morning, Dong A will present a limited edition of this significant book. We invite you to join us for the launch.
