Discovering Jinhua Shanxiaobingdao: A Budget-Friendly Alternative to Shanghai Wonderland

Remember those stunning images of the InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, also known as the Shanghai Quarry Hotel, carved into the side of a deep quarry in Songjiang? The turquoise lake, the dramatic cliffs – it all looks incredible, and a bit pricey, right?

Well, what if I told you there's a similar, equally photogenic spot that won't break the bank? Let me introduce you to Jinhua Shanxiaobingdao, or Little Iceland of Jinhua, nestled in Zhejiang Province.

Forget the 3,000 yuan price tag of Shanghai Wonderland! This is a revamped limestone quarry boasting an emerald lake, stark cliffs, and charming Nordic-inspired features. My sister and I, fueled by her dream to visit, embarked on an early morning adventure from Hangzhou. A 50-minute train ride (94 yuan) followed by a 40-minute taxi (58 yuan) landed us at this hidden gem. Entrance fees were 78 yuan, which included a refreshing drink.

For a total of 230 yuan, we captured some amazing photos. While it's not the same as the InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, it's a unique and memorable experience. Plus, there are other cool spots to explore nearby!

Planning Your Trip to Little Iceland

Opening Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily.

What Makes Jinhua Shanxiaobingdao Special?

  • Unique Scenery: This abandoned limestone quarry has been transformed into a captivating tourist destination, blending raw beauty with a touch of human ingenuity.
  • Nordic Flair: The turquoise lake, dark gray cliffs, and large wooden ship evoke a distinct Scandinavian atmosphere, reminiscent of Iceland's landscapes.
  • Instagram-Worthy: It's rapidly gaining popularity on social media as a must-visit photography spot.

Pro Tip: Arrive early to avoid the crowds! Explore to your heart's content, and then consider moving on to another province later in the day.

Bonus: Hengdian World Studios

If you have extra time, consider visiting Hengdian World Studios, often called "China's Hollywood." You'll find large-scale replicas of historical sites, from Ming and Qing Dynasty palaces to ancient streets. I didn't have time to visit this trip, but I've heard great things!
